Jocelyn’s Provisions

With several stores spread across Brisbane, namely in Camp Hill on the southside, Albion on the northside and Fortitude Valley in the city, Jocelyn's Provisions is a well-known Brisbane-based brand with an established, citywide reputation for fine cakes, bread, pastries, and provisions. All the products sold at Joycelyn’s are hand-made and baked fresh using the finest ingredients and traditional recipes. There are so many choices here to satisfy your cravings for sweetness, and there is no such thing as a bad choice, however if you only try one thing, I highly recommend it to be their delicious salted caramel cupcake.

Streets Beach

Brisbane can get very hot, so Streets Beach in Southbank, situated right along the Brisbane River and considered Australia’s only inner-city, man-made beach, is where locals and visitors alike come to cool off on those hot and humid Brisbane days and nights. Boasting a sparkling lagoon surrounded by white, sandy beaches and sub-tropical plants, taking a dip, and/or working on your tan on the sand, at Streets Beach is completely free and is patrolled by qualified lifeguards all year round. Here at Streets Beach, it feels like summer all year round, and located right in the heart of Southbank, is surrounded by cafes, restaurants, and bars. So, I definitely recommend making the day out of it, grabbing yourself an ice-cream on a stick from nearby Happy Pops, before enjoying an afternoon picnic further up at River Quay, whilst listening to free live music, which happens every Sunday afternoon.

Howard Smith Wharves

Although just a couple of years old, the Howard Smiths Wharves precinct has quickly become my go-to, whether for a casual bite to eat at Felons Brewery or drinks at Mr. Percival’s. Situated on prime riverfront real estate, directly below the Story Bridge, Brisbane’s newest entertainment and lifestyle destination truly all it all, home to a brewery, Greek taverna, the city’s first overwater bar, event spaces, a five-star hotel and more.

Riverbar & Kitchen

The Riverbar and Kitchen, located right on the river in Eagle Street Pier, is a one-of-a-kind waterfront destination and is arguably the best place to be as the sun sets at the end of the working week. The atmosphere is truly unbeatable on a Friday or Saturday night, but you'll have to be quick to secure one of the highly coveted bench seats that spill out onto the pathway, as it's hardly Brisbane's best-kept secret. Pizzas and burgers and delicious snacks, all designed for sharing among friends, dictate the menu here, and this same sharing philosophy is carried across to its extensive drinks menu with a number of cocktail jugs on offer.

Brisbane has been gradually evolving from a small, sleepy town to a metropolitan city that can proudly rival not only Sydney and Melbourne, but increasingly world cities like London, Hong Kong and New York City. In recent years in particular Brisbane has exploded with growth, from the opening of five-star hotels to chic cafes and restaurants to hip rooftop bars. With so much more planned for the near future, by far the most significant and exciting being the $3.6 billion Queens Wharf development, set to completely transform the city, Brisbane is only going to continue to grow and change for the better.

From a young age I have possessed a deep love for creating, whether through my writing, photography or design, and aspire to one day be in a role where these passions are in some way incorporated. However, presently I am a third-year, full-time student at the University of Queensland, studying marketing and tourism management. Outside of student life I showcase my creativity on Instagram and on my personal website, which effectively provides a platform to share my photographs and writing.
