Four Corners

Some of the most famous rock formations and noteworthy terrain (read: Instagram-worthy photos) in the United States can be found in the states that make up the Four Corners: Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah. Simultaneously, some of the best hiking, mountain biking, running, swimming, and other outdoor experiences can be had within driving distance of major cities such as Denver, Phoenix, and Salt Lake City.

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to catch a concert here any time soon – but Red Rocks remains a great sight to see on a trip to Denver, not to mention a great spot for a workout.

White Sands National Monument

More closely resembling the moon than any place else in the States, White Sands is an unforgettable stop in New Mexico. Rent a sled to rove its dunes, and come visit near sundown to avoid certain heatstroke.
